The UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (UNESCO-IIEP) has recently published an interview and research work by Associate Professor Dr. Jomphong Mongkhonvanit, Vice President of Siam University and Visiting Researcher at UNESCO-IIEP.
The interview, entitled “How TVET Can Prepare Learners for a Changing World of Work,” reflects on the evolving role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in preparing learners for a rapidly changing labour market shaped by digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and global economic shifts.
In addition, UNESCO-IIEP has released Dr. Mongkhonvanit’s Visiting Researcher Note entitled:
“Strengthening Foundational Skills in Thailand’s TVET System: An Integrated Framework for Future-Ready Skills Development.”
The study highlights the critical importance of strengthening foundational skills—including literacy, numeracy, communication, and problem-solving—as the basis for developing digital, green, and future-oriented competencies. It proposes an integrated framework to support Thailand’s TVET system in preparing learners for lifelong learning, employability, and sustainable development.

According to UNESCO-IIEP, the research contributes to the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
SDG 4.3: Equal access to quality technical, vocational, and tertiary education.
SDG 4.4: Increasing the number of youth and adults with relevant skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship.
SDG 4.7: Promoting knowledge and skills needed to support sustainable development and global citizenship.
The publication of both the interview and research note reflects growing international interest in strengthening foundational skills as a cornerstone of education and workforce development. It also highlights the contribution of Thai research and policy perspectives to global discussions on the future of skills, TVET transformation, and education planning.
